Border patrol officers arrest convicted sex offender

OCOTILLO, Calif .– U.S. Border Patrol officers assigned to El Centro on Monday evening arrested an undocumented individual who had previously been convicted of a sex offense.

The incident occurred at around 10:54 p.m., when officers assigned to the El Centro station encountered a group of nine individuals who entered the United States illegally, in the mountains near the Jacumba Wilderness in Ocotillo, in California. The individuals were arrested and transported to the El Centro sector processing center.

File checks of one of the nine people found it to be a 48-year-old Mexican national with a criminal and immigration background. The individual had previously been convicted of a first degree felony aggravated sexual assault with an indicator of domestic violence, in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, this individual had previously been deported from the United States by an immigration judge.

Since October 1, 2021, border patrol agents in the El Centro sector have arrested and / or returned four people convicted or wanted for sexual offenses.

US Border Patrol will treat the individual accordingly.
